I start off with a quote by Thoreau...
Now I agree, there is a time and place for rules, I'm no anarchist. BUT, there are some incredibly foolish "rules" out there that we cling to harder than some of our morals at times...
For example:
It's not cool to go out until midnight for fear of appearing uncool? or too eager? Beats me...how about go out when you want to instead of waiting for the clock to tick over to some stupid number? Who ever decided it was cool to go out "late"? I can just picture the many times in college we sat around saying "No, it's too early to get to Northgate let's wait" or (clock reads 10:00 PM) "the party started at 10:00, we have to wait atleast an hour, no one will be there"......why?!
Don't even get me going on "dating rules", this is just a total joke in and of itself. Every person, every situation is different. Period. The games these rules create are absolutley ridiculous - I don't mean to sound like I'm regurgitating "He's Just Not That Into You" but, come on people. Recent conversation had: "Well he waited an hour to text me back, I should wait and hour to text him back now" - are you serious? Maybe he was busy, maybe he did wait, WHO CARES?! If you have something to say to the person text back, if not don't text back. Or the classic "I don't want to appear too available", well honey truth is, you are available. Nuff said. I know, I know guys like the chase, girls like the chase, or are we just all too afraid to be seen as vulnerable? Is it a mix? I don't know...all I'm saying is we try so hard to play these games we get lost in them. I compare it to this: Each of the fifty states has completely different traffic laws. Some only allow U-turns at intersections, some allow them anywhere, some anywhere except intersections. So we grow up and we learn the traffic laws of one particular area, then one day, enter a new state, and get a ticket for breaking the law. Ultimately, I don’t think the onus is on men to become smarter or on women to become more consistent. But I do think it would be nice if the we let each other off with a few more warnings before making arrests or issuing fines. Each person, each situation is different.
"Be the exception, not the rule"
I could go on and on about silly rules, like the kid that brings their lunch to school everyday could be considered "nerdy" but maybe she's just a peanut butter and jelly connoisseur ;), but I will stop here, I think I've made my point...
That people legitimately make decisions based on silly rules that we have no clue where they came from is a sad thought for me...are we that insecure?

If they don't put peanut butter on both pieces of bread, then they definitely don't get the title of PB&J connoisseur. This is not debatable.
